How to Check What Version of Windows You Have
Not sure if your computer is running Windows 10, Windows 11, or an older version of Windows? Checking your Windows version only takes a few seconds, and it can help you understand whether your computer is up to date, compatible with certain software, or ready for support.
Below are a few simple ways to find out what version of Windows your computer is running.
Method 1: Check Your Windows Version from Settings
- Click the Start button.
- Click Settings.
- Select System.
- Scroll down and click About.
- Look for Windows specifications.
In this section, you should see the Windows edition, version, install date, and operating system build number.
Method 2: Use the Winver Command
This is one of the fastest ways to check your Windows version.
- Press the Windows key + R on your keyboard.
- Type winver.
- Press Enter.
A small window will open showing the Windows version and build number installed on your computer.
Method 3: Check If You Have Windows 10 or Windows 11
If your computer has a centered Start menu and a newer rounded design, it is probably running Windows 11. If the Start menu opens from the bottom-left corner with the older tile-style look, it may be running Windows 10.
The best way to confirm is still to use the Settings method or the winver command.
